Last week, the Rohingya Youths Support Network (RYSN) outreach team took another deeply meaningful step in our mission to protect, uplift, and stand beside our people. Our youth-led team traveled to a designated area in the Klang Valley to reach newly arrived Rohingya families and individuals who have yet to be registered on the UNHCR portal in Malaysia.
In just one field visit, more than 300 people were registered, the majority of them women and children. For so many families, this is their first doorway to safety: a chance to access basic protection, medical care, education, and the simple dignity of being seen. For our community, registration is not just a piece of paper, it is a shield against detention, exploitation, and the fear of disappearing in silence.

Why This Matters So Deeply
For thousands of Rohingya refugees in Malaysia, life without UNHCR registration means living in the shadows. It means mothers lying awake at night, terrified that their children could be taken or detained. It means young people unable to go to school, or families forced to work in unsafe, hidden jobs just to survive.
Many simply do not know how to register or they are too afraid to try. *The reason we have done this is because, in our recent research project on registration, we found that many people lack knowledge of using digital systems for registration*. Our youth leaders know this fear well. That is why they travel into communities, sit with families in their homes, explain each step in our own language, and help them complete the process with patience and care.
Our message to every mother, father, and child is clear: you are not alone. We see you. We stand with you.

Rooted in Our Mission to Empower
This outreach is not just a one-off event. It is the living heartbeat of RYSN’s mission: to empower our community from within. We believe every Rohingya deserves to know their rights and have the chance to protect themselves. By meeting people where they are, in places many organizations cannot reach, we make sure no one is left behind. We believe that when our youth lead, our community becomes stronger, safer, and more resilient.

A Youth-Led Solution Born From Lived Experience
Our youth leaders are not outsiders. They have walked this same road. They know the pain of waiting, the fear of being stateless, and the hope that sparks when someone says, “Let me help you.” Each person registered last week is not just a statistic. Each name carries a story, a dream, and the right to live with a little more dignity. This is what happens when refugee youth are trusted and supported to lead: real, lasting change takes root.

A Call for Support: We Cannot Do This Alone
This outreach is just one step. There are thousands more Rohingya families still waiting to be seen, still hoping for protection. We will continue our field visits, expand our safe spaces, and train more youth to carry this vital work forward. But we cannot do this alone. We call on our partners, donors, allies, and everyone who believes in justice to stand with us. Support our outreach. Invest in youth leadership. Help us ensure every Rohingya child and family can step out of the shadows and into safety.
Together, we can build a stronger, more resilient community, one that knows its rights, protects its most vulnerable, and lifts each other up, no matter how hard the road may be.

To our community: We see you. We hear you. We stand beside you.
To our partners and supporters: Thank you for walking this journey with us. Please keep standing with us, your solidarity is hope in action.
