The Rohingya Youths Support Network (RYSN) is deeply honoured to be recognized by Shell Malaysia for its active contribution to the Unbreakable Youth Program in September 2025. What may appear as a simple certificate is, in reality, a symbol of breakthrough, a moment where a global company acknowledged the strength and leadership of refugee youth on Malaysian soil.

For far too long, refugee communities, especially young people have been excluded from platforms that shape society. Yet in this collaboration, Shell Malaysia chose not to speak for us, but to stand with us. It was not an act of charity, but an act of recognition.

Why This Moment Matters

When a refugee-led organization like RYSN is invited to participate alongside Malaysian youth, it sends a powerful message:

  • We are not defined by our displacement, but by our determination.

  • Leadership can emerge from informal settlements just as it does from universities.

  • Resilience is not theoretical, it lives in young people who refuse to give up, even when systems make survival a struggle.

Through this partnership, RYSN had the opportunity to engage, collaborate, and showcase the undeniable truth: refugee youth are not a burden, we are builders

A Call for More Inclusive Futures

When refugee youth are included, everyone benefits:

  • Companies gain new perspectives shaped by lived experience.

  • Communities gain stronger social cohesion built on understanding.

  • The nation gains future leaders who are loyal not only by birth but by gratitude and shared purpose.

Testimony from RYSN’s Founder

As a refugee, I grew up hearing more about what we were not allowed to do than what we were capable of. But today, partnerships like this remind us that our dreams are valid, and our voices belong in every room.

Shell Malaysia didn’t just give us a certificate, they gave us confidence, visibility, and dignity. I hope more institutions follow this path and stand with refugee youth not as beneficiaries, but as partners in progress. — Husson Ahmad, Founder of RYSN

We will continue to empower, educate, and mobilize youth from displaced communities but the journey becomes stronger with allies beside us.
